Welcome! My name is Jack Owens. I’m a recent graduate of Davidson College. There I graduated with a BA in Educational Studies and Public Policy. Currently, I am pursuing a masters of social work from University of Michigan. This website includes links to my thesis: The Treatment Gap. It is an ethnographic study of the role schools played in the lives of young people in recovery. With this thesis, I garnered an interest for the sociology of mental health, with a specific focus on addiction, and hope to work with adolescents with substance use disorders in the future. Aside from academia I am also an avid musician and drummer. I hope to continue this passion during my time in Ann Arbor, although this past year I was able to play with Chick Corea, so I might have peaked.
